2019 Nissan Sentra vs 2019 Hyundai Elantra

If a new sedan has been on your mind, but you're not sure which would be the right one for you, then might we suggest either the 2019 Nissan Sentra or Hyundai Elantra. Should two options still be one too many for you though, there are some differences that might sway you one way or the other. If that sounds ideal then continue reading as we compare and contrast the Nissan Sentra and Hyundai Elantra.

2019 Nissan Sentra Power & Handling

The 2019 Nissan Sentra offers a pair of powertrain options that will have you jetting off wherever you need to go at even a moment's notice. The standard engine for four of the six available trims is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out upwards of 130 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque when paired with its six-speed manual transmission. There is also an available continuously variable automatic transmission for the SV, SR, and SL trims. The SR Turbo and Nismo trims come equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that's equipped with your choice of either a six-speed manual or a calibrated continuously variable automatic transmission with a manual-shift mode for 188 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque.

2019 Hyundai Elantra Power & Handling

The Hyundai Elantra offers a 2-liter four-cylinder engine for its SE, SEL, Value Edition, and Limited trims, which runs on 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual, but can be upgraded to automatic. The Eco trim offers a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that's mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission for better fuel-efficiency, 128 horsepower, and 156 pound-feet of torque. Last of the Elantra's available powertrains is limited to the Sport trim, a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that can be paired to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission for 201 horsepoer and 195 pound-feet of torque.

2019 Nissan Sentra Features & Design

The six trim levels of the 2019 Nissan Sentra will ensure that no matter what level you choose you'll still be swimming in features that work to make your drive as comfortable and efficient as possible. The base level S trim starts things off as the bargin trim, but you won't find it lacking in features because of that distinction. The S trim starts things off with a four-speaker audio system, 16-inch steel wheels, USB port, automatic headlights, rearview camera, air conditioning, a seven-inch central touchscreen, height-adjustable driver seat, trip computer, split 60/40-folding rear seatbacks, cruise control, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column. The next trim up is the SV, which gains satellite radio, 16-inch alloy wheels, six-speaker audio system, keyless entry, smartphone integration, keyless ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded cloth upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Starting with the SV, automatic emergency braking becomes standard for trims also equipped with the continuously variable automatic transmission. There is a special edition package available for the SV trim which adds rear cross-traffic alert, 17-inch wheels, blind-spot monitoring, rear disc brakes, illuminated sun visors, and a sunroof. At the SR trim level the Sentra gains a sport body kit, unique cloth upholstery, LED headlights, heated mirrors, fog lights, and adaptive cruise control. There is also an available Premium package for the SR, which sees the addition of an eight-speaker Bose audio system, a sunroof, leather upholstery, auto-dimming rearview mirror, power driver seat, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The SR Turbo trim builds off the SR and adds a sunroof, sport-tuned suspension, upgraded front brakes, and recalibrated steering. The Nismo trim starts with the SR Turbo's features, then adds its own unique trim pieces that include badges, a spoiler, grille, 18-inch wheels, and exhaust in addition to an eight-speaker Bose audio system and access to an interior appearance package. Last of the Sentra's available trims is the SL, which drops many of the SR's sport-themed features in exchange for heated mirrors, heated front seats, and nearly all optional and package features from the previous trims.

2019 Hyundai Elantra Features & Design

There are also six trim levels available for the 2019 Hyundai Elantra. Things start off with the SE trim, which starts things off simply with a USB port, steel 15-inch wheels, five-inch display, front disc brakes, six-speaker sound system, rear drum brakes, Bluetooth, power mirrors, split 60/40-folding rear seat, rearview camera, air conditioning, and height-adjustable front seats. The SEL trim sees the addition of satellite radio, 16-inch alloy wheels, smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear disc brakes, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment display, automatic headlights, and heated side mirrors. At the Value Edition level, the Elantra will gain sun visor extensions, a sunroof, rear-seat cupholders, LED daytime running lights, leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, door-handle approach lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, heated front seats, push-button start, and hands-free trunk release. The Eco trim level is similarly equipped to the Value edition, but also gains 15-inch alloy wheels and dual USB ports while losing the sunroof. The Limited trim level adds an eight-speaker Infinity speaker system, 17-inch alloy wheels, wireless charging pad, LED headlights, dual USB ports, automatic high beams, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, adjustable rear headrests, power-adjustable driver seat, and sliding armrests. The final trim for the Elantra is the Sport, which is similarly equipped to the Limited, loses its dual-zone automatic climate control but gains black headliner, a sunroof, front heated sport seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, grippier tires, unique gauge cluster, stronger brakes, flat-bottomed steering wheel, and chrome exterior accents.

Conclusions

While both the 2019 Nissan Sentra and Hyundai Elantra have much to offer, we're going to have to give our recommendation to the Sentra. Its combination of available features and powertrains delivers more per trim than what Elantra tries to, making it the superior vehicle to consider. So if you're still considering a sedan, then put some extra consideration into the 2019 Nissan Sentra.
