Did you know that all of the lakes in Maryland are man made? For a state that has a shoreline, this is a fun fact many people might not know.  But don't let the man made part stop you from planning a trip. There is no better lake to visit in Maryland than Deep Creek Lake. Consider this inland destination as a part of your vacation planning destination list, it is just over four hours from the Drexel Hill area!

Deep Creek Lake offers over 65 miles of shoreline. It is the largest freshwater lake in Maryland and covers of 3,500 acres.   A trip to the Deep Creek Experience means you and your family can choose a number of things to do. Water activities include boating, kayaking, white water fun, fishing and more. Or you can simply sit and enjoy the lakeside experience. Note that the Deep Creek area is fun for in water activities during the warm seasons and lots of winder fun including snow tubing too. Once the lake freezes over, ice fishing is also a popular activity to do on the lake. Here are some other interesting things to do in the area:

  • In the surrounding areas, there are arcades, restaurants and historic sites to visit.
  • Because of the location, there is also great hiking, hunting and ATV experiences to enjoy.    
  • Deep Creek hosts events and yearly festivals including the annual Autumn Glory festival. 
  • There are tours worth taking in the Deep Creek area including guided historic tours. Plan to take a guided natural tour via kayak too.  
  • Before you leave, head to the Lavender farm to take in the sights and scents and to grab a few lavender based items to take back home.
