2019 Nissan Pathfinder vs 2019 Toyota HighlanderSport utility vehicles otherwise known as SUV's, have become increasingly popular over the years. Buyers love the added ride height, additional seating capacities, extra legroom, and added cargo space. Since the want for these vehicles has boomed over the years manufacturers keep on introducing new SUV models to the market. Since the list of available SUVs on the market today is so vast we've taken the liberty of narrowing down that list to just two models. The first model is the new 2019 Nissan Pathfinder with best-in-class towing, a spacious interior, and loads of safety features. The other vehicle we'll be looking at today is the new 2019 Toyota Highlander, so keep reading as we go on to compare these two vehicles. | |
2019 Nissan Pathfinder Power & HandlingAt the heart of the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, you'll find a highly capable 3.5-liter V6 engine. The engine produces 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes mated with a smooth-shifting continuously variable automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive comes standard you can also outfit the Pathfinder with four-wheel-drive. The 4WD system comes with hill descent control and a special 4WD locking function for extra traction. All versions of the Pathfinders are capable of towing up to 6,000 pounds. | 2019 Toyota Highlander Power & HandlingThe 2019 Toyota Highlander LE is powered by one singular engine option. That engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder which makes an underwhelming 185 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. If you're looking to match the power of the Pathfinder you're going to have to opt for one of the more expensive trim levels. Higher trim levels come with a 3.5-liter V6 engine which pumps out 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The V6 still comes standard with front-wheel-drive although this engine does unlock the option for all-wheel-drive. |
2019 Nissan Pathfinder Features & DesignNissan offers the Pathfinder in four different trim levels. The base model S comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, automatic emergency braking, roof rails, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a six-speaker sound system. The second-tier SV model adds rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The SL moves into luxurious territory with heated front and second-row seats, heated steering wheel, navigation, a top-down 360-degree parking camera system, and a power liftgate. The Platinum rounds out the model lineup nicely with ventilated front seats, wood interior, a trailer hitch receiver, a panoramic sunroof, and a 13-speaker Bose sound system. Optional for the Premium is a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 8-inch headrest displays. | 2019 Toyota Highlander Features & DesignThe 2019 Toyota Highlander is available in an overwhelming number of trim levels. The base LE model comes with a backup camera, rear air conditioning, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker sound system. The LE Plus adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, tri-zone automatic climate control, and foglights. Next up is the XLE which adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, roof rails, and keyless entry. The fourth trim level, the SE, only adds LED running lights, 19-inch wheels, and a sportier suspension. The Limited introduces heated and ventilated front seats, a rear cargo cover, and different 19-inch wheels. Lastly, we have the Limited Platinum with a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, and automatic wipers. |
ConclusionsWhile both of these three-row SUVs are pretty impressive we clearly have a winner here, and that winner is the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. The Pathfinder simply outperforms the Toyota Highlander in every single way. Not only can the Pathfinder tow more than the Highlander it also offers more comprehensively equipped trim levels. Each model comes with way more features than the Highlander, and what family isn't going to love the rear entertainment system available in the Pathfinder.
